I am the Owner/Operator at CrossFit Angola. Exercise has been a part of my life since as long as I can remember. As a child I remember watching my dad workout in the garage and being told the importance of working everyday to continue to be strong and healthy. I started CrossFit on my own for a short time while pursuing becoming a Law Enforcement Officer. I was first introduced to CrossFit in 2014 after seeing the CrossFit Games on T.V. and being amazed by how the athletes could be strong, fast, have good conditioning, and have total fitness in every aspect.
In early 2015 I started attending CrossFit Pursuit in Coldwater, MI. This is where I fell in love with the style of training and the community aspect that came from a CrossFit gym. Very quickly, I knew I wanted to be a part of CrossFit coaching and have the ability to show people the power and impact it can have on anyone’s life. In early 2017 I began coaching part time at CrossFit Coldwater, and left my job as a Law Enforcement Officer to begin coaching full time in the summer of 2018 and then opened up CrossFit Angola at the end of 2018.
I knew I wanted to bring CrossFit to Angola, my home-town. My goal has always been to help improve people’s quality of life through health and fitness. My favorite part of coaching is building a community of positive, fun, driven individuals of all different types that can build a healthier lifestyle while having fun in the process!
My favorite movement is the ring muscle up and power cleans, and my least favorite movement is running!

Ian Burkhart (CrossFit Level 2)
Let’s just jump right in! I am the Head Coach at CFA. My family comes first in my life. I wouldn’t be where I am right now if they didn’t support me and be there every step of the way. Being a fitness professional comes with some crazy hours and crazy schedules. I’m thankful for them every damn day!
I am beyond passionate about health, fitness, and personal development. With nearly 10 years of experience in CrossFit, and 8 years as a coach, I’ve seen it all and done most of it. I’ve done bodybuilding in college, strongman, 1/2 marathons, and everything in between. At the end of the day, I’m a firm believer in CrossFit and I’ve dedicated my career to helping others push past their limits and unlock their full potential.
I played college baseball at Defiance College. My experiences both on the field and off, lead me down a fitness based route to get me here. I am currently the Head Coach at CrossFit Angola and I am an Assistant Baseball Coach at Trine University.
At the end of the day, I am driven by the mission of empowering individuals to become the best version of themselves, both physically and mentally. In the gym. In the field. And in life.
Stay strong y’all!
James Purkey
James Purkey (CrossFit Level 2- CrossFit Programming- Pre-Script Level 1)
My name is James Purkey, but many call me Purkey. I was born and raised here in Angola, Indiana. I have been a coach here at CFA for over five years now.
I started off as a member in 2019 and from there I fell in love with the methodology of CrossFit and everything that CFA does. So I became a part of the team.
I have always been involved in some type of athletics since I was in third grade. I have always loved sports and with sports I was introduced to the gym. A lot of my experience came from strength and conditioning for sports, but it was in the year of 2016 when I played my last snap of football I had decided I wanted to lose weight. At this time I weighed over 260lbs and I wanted to change. So I made a change. I graduated in 2016 at my lowest of 170 lbs. From there I pursued some different endeavors like powerlifting and running, but it was in 2018 that I had found myself lost at and back up to 235lbs. It was that following year that CrossFit came into my life and everything changed from there.
As I have mentioned I have coached for over 5 years, but have explored and grown my experience through many different endeavors. I have competed in powerlifting meets, BJJ tournaments, 5ks, 10s, a marathon, Spartan Races, as well as several CrossFit competitions.
I love the world of health and fitness and I love being a part of it. My mission in life is to help as many people as I can in any way I can and coaching is just one of those avenues that allows me to do so.
I have a strong passion for fitness and all the things it can do for you! If you see me around the gym don’t be afraid to ask me to join in on some burpees, because burpees are my favorite movement!
Bailey McEnroe
Bailey McEnroe (CrossFit Level 1- BS and MS in Exercise Physiology- ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist- Precision Nutrition Coach)
My name is Bailey McEnroe and I am originally from Somerset, Kentucky. I originally got into fitness when I was in high school and wanted to improve my performance in football. I began working out when I turned 14 years old and fell in love with it. After graduating high school, I went to the University of Louisville and studied exercise physiology. I wanted to learn more and apply the information into my own fitness. This eventually lead me to finding CrossFit a few short years later.
What I love the most about coaching is being able to help people out and improve their fitness. So many people struggle in this world and a lot of people know they need to be more active. Being somebody that can properly and safely introduce or modify exercise for someone is very rewarding. I also enjoy being a resource for health and fitness for those who are curious or ever have questions!
My favorite movement is the power clean due its complexity and always being able to find ways to improve the lift.
My least favorite movement would be a tie between man makers or box jump burpees. They both do a great job of humbling me quickly.
